Designing a branded workplace that balances focus and connection.
When life sciences software leader, Veeva Systems, needed to establish their Madison, Wisconsin presence, they came to us with a clear vision to create a workspace that would bring their distinctive brand to life while prioritizing acoustic performance and social connection. The empty shell space offered an opportunity to build a workplace from the ground up that would authentically reflect Veeva's culture.
The responsive, collaborative client team proved instrumental to the project’s success. Together we developed a design strategy that wove Veeva's visual identity throughout the space while maintaining acoustic integrity essential for focused work. The challenge was creating an environment that felt distinctly Veeva, incorporating their signature yellows, blues, and oranges, without overwhelming the senses or sacrificing functionality.
Acoustics drove many design decisions with double-glazed glass for meeting rooms and offices, acoustic felt on ceilings, and acoustic wall treatments throughout. Carpet flooring dampened sound while warm wood elements improved acoustics and softened the industrial character. Every material selection supported quiet zones for concentration alongside energized spaces for collaboration.
Rather than a traditional reception, we designed a welcoming check-in counter that sets an approachable tone. Bold yellow branded signage against neutral wood tones, and a striking blue circular ceiling element, immediately communicates Veeva's identity while creating visual interest in the entry.
The design maintains consistency while giving each area its own character. Veeva's signature "V" appears as a recurring motif in light fixtures that form V-shapes and geometric wall graphics. Blue, yellow, and orange accents pop against a neutral palette of concrete, wood, and white, creating a sophisticated backdrop that lets the brand shine.
The expansive café represents the heart of the workspace. Designed for socializing and informal collaboration, it features custom orange booth seating, vertical wood slatted walls, and a fully equipped kitchen. Exposed ceiling elements maintain the industrial aesthetic while suspended fixtures add warmth and define zones.
The result successfully balances Veeva's need for branded identity, acoustic performance, and social connection that proves thoughtful design and strong client collaboration can transform an empty space into a distinctive workplace employees are proud to call their own.
